DAY 15: GOD’S PRESENCE IN TEMPTATION
READ
Luke 4:1-13; Hebrews 4:15
REFLECT
This week we will look at the certainty of God’s presence during times of temptation and in every season life of life. We will start by looking at Jesus’ temptation in Luke 4:1-13.
Most of the best sports commentators on TV are those who’ve actually played the sport they are talking about. They bring a certain level of expertise and insight to the sport that someone who hasn’t played the sport cannot bring. In other words, they know what they’re talking about and are not speaking ignorantly. Therefore, it shouldn’t be surprising these kinds of commentators are very popular. We want to hear from the experts and those who’ve been where we are. This is why we don’t seek advice about college from someone who has never been to college, or marital advice from someone who hasn’t been married, or how to raise teenagers from someone who hasn’t had teenagers. We seek advice from those who are further down the road that we are.
Thankfully, our Lord Jesus is not a stranger to temptation. He has been tempted in every way we have been tempted—but He never gave in. He never sinned. While He is a great example, He is not merely that. He is God who can give us the strength and wisdom to not surrender to temptation. As we go throughout our days, let us stay in constant contact with Him and watch Him give us the necessary power and wisdom to avoid falling into sin.
RESPOND
Spend time in prayer, following the Upward, Inward, Outward, Upward format.
Upward: Who God is; What God has done, is doing, will do
Inward: Who you are; How you live
Outward: Intercession for others
Today’s Prayer:
Father, I admit giving into temptation is more natural than unnatural. I feel like I’m going against the grain of my internal desires when I run from temptation. I want to give in. Transform my heart so that I desire not only to run from temptation but also to run to you. Show me you are far better than any sin that may temporally satisfied me. Show me you are more than enough!
Upward: Thanksgiving and Worship
