DAY 21: GOD’S GENEROSITY

READ
John 3:16

REFLECT
In April 2017, former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez died by suicide while in prison. It was discovered several days later he had written the words “John 3:16” on his forehead before his death. This was the favorite verse of Hernandez’s former college teammate, Tim Tebow. The phrase also was popular because of all the John 3:16 signs that show up at NFL games. Hernandez’s story is a very sad one, and we will never know the reason he wrote the reference to John 3:16 on his forehead. However, he literally left behind a message of the best way God has ever expressed His generosity.

God’s generosity is the pinnacle of generosity. No one else can top God and His generosity. Hopefully, these 21 days have strengthened your vision of God’s generous nature, how others in the Bible have been transformed by it, and how you can demonstrate this generosity to others around you. Now go forward praising God for His generous heart and look for opportunities to be messengers of His generosity through words and actions!toward us through the cross, we will be able to show this same type of generosity to others.

RESPOND
Spend time in prayer, following the Upward, Inward, Outward, Upward format.

Upward: Who God is; What God has done, is doing, will do

Inward: Who you are; How you live

Outward: Intercession for others

Today’s Prayer:
“God, thank you for showing me your generosity in ways I’ve never experienced. Thank you for your generous heart and for providing me examples in the Bible of people who have been transformed by this generosity. Continue to transform my heart and help me and my church look for opportunities to be generous to others, whether we think they deserve it or not. After all, this is the kind of love you’ve given me—undeserved generosity.”

Upward: Thanksgiving and Worship
