DAY 1: GOD’S GENEROSITY IS SEEN THROUGH HIS CREATION
READ
Genesis 2:7; Psalm 104:10-18
REFLECT
In the beginning, God revealed His generosity. God’s generosity was poured out on nothing (for nothing existed) so that something and someone could experience His generosity. In His generous, creative work, God built in everything His creation needed to live and thrive. As Paul David Tripp writes, “God not only created a magnificently beautiful world for our dwelling place, but he created us with just the right collection of senses to take it in and enjoy it. On top of that, one of the most precious things about the gift of creation is that it was purposely designed to reveal the most important thing ever—the Creator’s existence and character.”[1]
Have you ever viewed creation as the generosity of God? God didn’t have to design the world as beautiful and perfectly operational as He did. He didn’t have to make the landscape of the earth in such a way that we could view beautiful sunsets or feel the soft breeze upon our faces during a nice, fall day. But He did. When God created, He didn’t just set things in motion so they would merely work; He created so they would work beautifully to our enjoyment. This is true in many things: sex, eating, work, play. Our enjoyment of God’s creation exists because of His generosity!
RESPOND
Spend time in prayer, following the Upward, Inward, Outward, Upward format.
Upward: Who God is; What God has done, is doing, will do
Inward: Who you are; How you live
Outward: Intercession for others
Today’s Prayer:
“Creator God, thank you for allowing creation to express your generosity. Honestly, I’ve never looked at creation in this way. Thank you for allowing me to see who you are simply by being aware of how you’ve created all that is around me. Forgive me for my lack of awareness in seeing your generosity through creation. Help me not to ignore your generosity today. Help us as a church be more aware of your generosity in your continued creative works.”
Upward: Thanksgiving and Worship
